Hi,

I have made an extroot with this tutorial:

How can I be sure, that it worked and Gargoile is booting from usb?

This feature is already build into gargoyle

Have a look at "USB Storage"

Agreed you should use the inbuilt feature.
If you want to check what you've already done, type "df" at the command line and check the size of rootfs
