Linksys WRT1900AC Quotas and Bandwidth Issue

Post by dalkantrell »

I have installed Gargoyle 1.9.X (Built 20151229-0823 git@81ea605) on to my Linksys WRT1900AC. The main reason I use Gargoyle is for the bandwidth quotas.

I notice that if even one device on my network has a quota assigned to it all other devices that do not have a quota develop issues with connecting to websites. The websites may not load at all, or can't load embedded videos. I've tried running a speed test on different websites and the tests progress will start out fast and then slow down to a crawl all the while the speed is actually slowing down to a lower rate.

I'm really baffled by this. I assign all devices in the house a static IP address to try to prevent device conflicts. Has anyone else had this experience? I NEED to use the quota feature of Gargoyle. If I don't our household will use double the data allowed for our plan. But using it on this router is a real issue.

You're using a version that is now almost a year old.
Please update to 1.9.1.
You won't be able to keep your settings when upgrading or it will fail dramatically.

Then, please share your quota settings so that we might be able to see what is wrong.

Do I use the 'mamba file' under Marvell Armada Architecture on gargoyle-router website or is this file somewhere else? I don't see one that says WRT1900AC unless I'm over looking it? Thank you for your continued help by the way!

That depends on what version of the router you have.

The table under Supported Hardware shows the version numbering with the build identifier in brackets after.

It's V1 Mamba. I just wanted to make sure that the Marvell Armada firmware was correct and I wasn't overlooking a different firmware.

I have updated to version 1.9.1. I did not restore my old configuration. I entered all settings manually. I use MAC filtering with WPA2 PSK encryption. I entered all MAC addresses that will be accessing the router. Then I assigned all devices a static IP.

I created 8 groups of quotas that cover 19 devices. These are to prevent the adolescents in the household from exceeding our monthly data allotment. Part of those devices are scheduled to turn off 5 days of the week (school days) to encourage the children to go to bed at a reasonable time. The rest of the devices in the house are not under a quota or schedule.

Once quotas and scheduling is applied eventually video services will no longer work smoothly on any device connected to the router. This includes streaming services like Netflix, Youtube, Amazon VOD and embedded videos on services like Facebook, Vine, etc.

If I run a speedtest after setting the router up this way the speedtest starts fast and then gradually slows down and generally never finishes.

I've never had this issue with using Gargoyle on the TP-Link router I used to use but had to retire. Any ideas? I really need to use the bandwidth quotas and scheduling. It's the main reason I use Gargoyle.

I have got issue with QoS as well, I have upgraded my Shelby to the latest Gargoyle version, I enabled QoS upload, I set upload speed then set ip address for VoIP class Save Settings then router rebooted and Gargoyle won't start anymore, router is booting from primary partition. I don't have any chances to get access to the logfile.
