It seems torrents use random ports in a range.
I see under "Add new Classification Rule", there a checkbox for Application (Layer 7) Protocol.
If I select "BitTorrent" there, and select the destination IP as the box my torrent client is running on ... Will that work? I'm running uTorrent. When it says "BitTorrent", does it mean the client application? Or any torrent in general?

Re: Torrent port for QOS
Any torrent in general, but it doesn't work currently. I've been meaning to fix that for ages.
Layer 7 matching doesn't work well in general due to encryption. We can no longer inspect the packets.

Ah, OK.
I'll remove that one then, for now.
Thanks.

I think it may of come to the point were it mite be best to remove layer 7 code. We are only going to get more and more encryption. I know that i will use more of it were ever possible. Just a thought!

There are options to do what I refer to as "deep packet inspection" where we build an SSL decrypter in. However it is significantly slower and harder on the CPU
