2 x WR1043ND's

Post by pschwartz914 »

Hey Guys,

Been using Gargoyle for a while on my WR1043ND's and it works fantastically until recently. First, my previous setup:

Used one router as the main router with DHCP enabled and doing the connecting to the network. The second router was setup as a Wireless Bridge/ Connect via WDS. Worked great, small location so no issues.

Now, we have moved into a much larger house and the WDS won't really work very well. Currently the main router is in the study (one end of the house). I am currently using an EOP to connect to the second router. Now initially I thought I could use under Wireless Bridge -> Connect via Client Bridge to connect the two via a cable, and then allow me to set it as a repeater. But this didn't work at all, as anything connected to the repeater router (router 2) didn't receive an IP via DHCP.

So I changed the setting to configure the 2nd router as a gateway and just set the SSID the same as the first router. I can see everything on the network, but my WD TV Live won't stream from my server on Router 1. The WD TV can see it (I have Plex Server on the server), but won't actually play anything(But I can use Plex when connected to router 1's wifi) I have set the 2nd router as a DMZ in router 1 but makes no difference.

Any thoughts?
Cheers
Peter

To connect both via a cable, set one as DHCP wired and disable its DHCP server.
This will allow all clients connected to it to receive an IP through the first routers DHCP server.

Is this the setup you are using and it still doesn't work? Because I am using the above setup and steaming from 2 different PS3's from a network storage on the first router.

The main router is set as the DHCP server. The 2nd has this turned off. The first one is currently set its WAN connection as DHCP (wired), but this will most likely change as we don't have an internet connection here yet. The 2nd router had the Connect Via -> Disabled. I've also set the DNS server in the 2nd to the first's IP address.

Connect via disabled is ok. That just makes it into a "switch" rather than a router.
In which case there isn't any reason for your streaming not to work.
