TA-WA850RE(US) Ver. 1.24 Lost password

Post by justapoorboy »

I dun goof'd.

Years ago I flashed my TP-Link TA-WA850RE(US) Ver. 1.24 wireless extender with Gargoyle firmware. All was working well until I moved and lost the device, but now I've found it again. The problem is that I don't remember the password anymore.

I've tried the 30/30/30 reset and read some other documentation that went way over my head.

Can anyone explain in layman's terms what my options are to recover from this or reflash the firmware to reach default settings without the password?

:?

30/30/30 does nothing.

The correct reset procedure is to continually press a hardware button on the router at boot up until the system light flashes very fast.

At this point you can then telnet in, "mount_root", "passwd", "reboot", and you're back in business. :)

The generic failsafe procedure is here: https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.failsafe

I'm still pretty lost. I plug the router directly into the ethernet port on my PC. I turn on the router and I keep pressing the hardware button. It starts flashing. I open telnet and type mount_root? I seriously tried reading that documentation but it's like it's not even English to me :|

This video describes how to get into failsafe mode.

Once there, you can run the two commands.

Does this help?
