Could access http://192.168.0.1/ but not anymore

Post by Robster »

Hi all, I have a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND.
I had it all setup and was playing with settings in the admin and now I can't get to the admin page anymore.

It's either a setting I changed.
OR I have the cables plugged in incorrectly?
(network cable is plugged from modem to TPLink then from TPLink to my computer).

Assuming that I have mucked up the settings how can I restore the TPLink so I can try again? If I can't get to the admin screen I can't load the file located at the bottom of this page: http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... nk-install

I'm on a Mac if that makes any difference?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. As it is it's just a brick. Rob

Have you tried powering the router off and on?
Are you physically connected from your PC to a LAN port on the router?
If so then try these

Can you help someone else get Gargoyle up and running?

Thanks for the help (and happy Australia Day!).

I have restarted it a few times yes.
I just tried the first step: ssh root@192.168.1.1
It simply won't connect. This is what I see:

Code: Select all

ssh root@192.168.1.1
ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.1 port 22: Operation timed out
So, I installed Wireshark and followed those instructions.
- Got my static IP address on my computer.
- Wireshark, boot router, reset.
- Telnet in via "telnet 192.168.1.1"
- Got the Gargoyle prompts! Excellent.
- Entered "firstboot"
then waited... and waited.... and waited (let's assume 30 minutes).

So, to step 3... The final if nothing else works step:
Stumble stumble, it got stuck in boot up. Stumble stumble, restart modem and BAM! I'm IN!

Hey, thanks so much my friend. It took a bit of brain bending on my behalf and a lot of faith but I'm back in.

Now, back to what to do next: http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... =11&t=8257

(again, thanks so much!)

reminiscent of the my own baptism of fire!

Once I gained a little confidence in flashing images I waited less patiently for the flash to complete - then I got some more practice at fail-safe resets as a direct result.
