Any problems upgrading from 1.0.15 to 1.2.5?

Post by Statik »

Hi all,

Been running 1.0.15 for a while now and was looking at upgrading to 1.2.5 (latest stable) on my AW430. I made a backup and was going to use the web-based upgrade option. Other than the expected root IP changes that I'll have to account for, are there any other gotcha's I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

That huge a jump in upgrade, I would recommend re-installing
all settings fresh. I would NOT load an old config, but thats me.

Technically it should not be an issue, but I know there have been
a LOT of new features added on, so there could be errors or
glitches that occur when reading that old config file into the new
1.2.5 firmware version.

My recommendation - write all the settings down
Flash 1.2.5 fresh - manually input all the config

That way you will have a nice, fresh, stable config.

Go ahead and try to load the old config file if you want, but if the
router is at all acting strangely, or the GUI interface seems to have
some issues - re-flash and re-enter all values in by hand.

My recommendation only... :P

Thanks. I suspected that would be the case but I was hopeful (and lazy).

I guess I'll have to wait for a free evening to do the upgrade so that I have the time to copy/re-enter the settings.

Other than the settings, there shouldn't be an issue, tho?

Thanks,

Statik

No - you shouldn't have any issues other than the config

The new Backfire - 1.3.x series - I had seen some glitches in
1.3.3 and 1.3.4 - haven't tested 1.3.5 enough yet to see if the issue
has been resolved yet.

1.2.x series was pretty stable for me - should be a great upgrade
for you and should run pretty solidly.

OK, did the upgrade. Upgrading through the web interface didn't go so well. I'm not sure if it hung, or if its just the odd way this router goes. The reboot at the end left me with wireless working still, but using the cable modem for DNS. (I got a 71.x.x.x IP instead of 192.168.1.x)

So, I hooked up the old fashioned way and used fon-flash. Then I had to ease the router back to its proper settings. Get the IP/DNS working first, then add the WAN, then the wireless, etc.

Now that I have that done, and the DHCP is filled with the MACs of the proper clients I'd like to setup the whitelist on all PCs except 2. Can you give me step-by-steps to set this up?

I'm guessing:
1. Access restrictions (2 laptops)
Rule description - Parental Access
Rule Applies to - Only these hosts
MAC addresses of the 2 laptops in question
all three checkboxes filled
2. Access restrictions
Rule description - Child Access
Rule Applies to - All Hosts Except
MAC addresses of the 2 laptops in question
all three checkboxes filled
Whitelist
Rule description - Child Access
Rule applies to - Only these hosts
MAC address of kids PC
all three checkboxes filled
. . . and then what?

Thanks!
