Tp-link wdr3600 Wifi going crazy

Post by Musclethumbs »

I've recently been having a lot of problems with my wdr3600's wifi. After trying to fix it for about a week I've been thinking of just buying a new router, and the reason being that the wifi is dying.

The problem is, the wifi has massive ping spikes when doing certain things. We used to be able to have 2 pc's connected by wifi, play multiplayer games, video skype call and watch youtube all at the same time. Ping would only spikes a little. But recently the spikes have got a lot worse. One pc kept losing signal, the windows wifi icon was bouncing up and down, when it did this ping jumped really high. Eventually it just completely disconnected from the wifi and couldn't reconnect. This mainly happened when connecting to multiplayer games. Then the same thing started happening on the other pc. After many reboots and re-installing firmware, we managed to get it a bit better. Ping in games however can still spike fairly high at times. And ping is higher than average. When the wifi would drop out on one pc, it would stop on all devices. Wired still worked however.

I mainly want to know if there's any way of finding out the cause of the sudden ping spikes before I buy a new one? And if it's fixable. I'm currently running Gargoyle 1.6.2. Although I have had the ping spikes on 1.6.2, 1.8.0, 1.9.0 and original tp-link firmware. I am also using a technicolor tg797n v3 in bridge mode. The ping was also kinda bad when just using the technicolor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Losing hope on this router haha :')

My WDR3600 has had stable wifi with all of those Gargoyle versions (but enabling Guest network causes problems). I have about a dozen WiFi devices. There is one gamer, but not much multi-player stuff (I think).
Can you help someone else get Gargoyle up and running?
TL-WDR3600 : Gargoyle 1.9.0 : NBN FixedWireless
TL-WR1043ND-V2 : Gargoyle 1.8.0 : 3G Huawei E160E
