Cant login after setting long password

Post by Mif »

For a bit of extra security, I decided to set the router password to an old 70 or so character password (an old wpa key I keep in a txt file).
I copy pasted it into the fields, and changed the password.

Now I can't login to the web admin.
Even by pasting the password immediately after I changed it (ie, the password is copy/pasted the same).

I've tried to tftp a new flash with no luck.
I suspect its because I need to break the router first, but I cant telnet/ssh in because it wont accept the password.

Where do I go from here?

P.S. Another request for something to be done with the reset button.

Broadcom Router? Atheros Router?

What make/model of router and which version of firmware?

I wonder if there is a password limit and it cut off part of the
password? Not sure what the password length limit is.

Have you tried this to recover?

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Re ... _Bad_Flash

Since Gargoyle is on, I don't think the Hard-reset will work.

But have you tried doing a TFTP flash ?

You might have to flash Linksys/DD-WRT firmware first,
then re-flash Gargoyle back on, so the memory settings get wiped.

I've tried to TFTP many may times (using linksys firmware), but can't get it to work.

I did read that Win7 may have problems with it though, and may need to try XP or Linux.

I encountered this issue when attempting to access the web interface. Connecting via ssh is fine. I created a 40 character password that was truncated to 35 characters when pasted into both firefox and chrome. I am using firmware 1.2.4. Has this been fixed in future releases? My fonera had stability issues with 1.2.5, so I downgraded.
