WNDR3700v4 1.7->1.7.1

Post by funkymonk66 »

I need sysupgrade.bin to install new version, but all i can see is gargoyle_1.7.1-ar71xx-nand-wndr3700v4-squashfs-sysupgrade.tar. How can I flash my router with gargoyle 1.7.1?

There is no sysupgrade.BIN file. Only sysupgrade.TAR

I can't upgrade either from DD-WRT to Gargoyle as in the Download section the firmware available for download appears to be incorrect.
It has the extension .TAR instead or .IMG or .BIN. Example, the latest image file is gargoyle_1.9.0-ar71xx-nand-wndr3700v4-squashfs-sysupgrade.tar

Can someone help please as I really want to try Gargoyle out.

.tar is the correct extension for that particular router

Thanks for the quick replies and the links. Don't really want the hassle or risk of bricking the router by using tftp. Sounds like if you are on DD-WRT it is safer to revert back to the factory image and then do the Gargoyle webflash. Thanks for your help. I might try it sometime and will post the result.

From DD-WRTtried to TFTP the stock Netgear firmware onto WNDR3700v4 and it bricked the router - used first and latest version both did not work. Luckily it is easy to put the Netgear into recovery mode - press and hold reset button for 45 secs after turning on router. Then, tried TFTP factory Gargoyle firmware and that worked straight away. Using Gargoyle now - it's pretty good. Appears to be a light version firmware except you can't turn off bandwidth monitoring/data collection like Tomato.

You can via the command line.
Gargoyles feature set is basically reliant on the bandwidth monitoring. I'd argue that you're on the wrong firmware if you want to turn it off lol

Anyone successfully reverted back to stock firmware or dd-wrt? I am running gargoyle 1.8.1 on a Netgear WNDR3700v4. I noticed there is a lot of help if you are on TP-LINK but not so much on other hardware. I tried using the web interface but that does not do anything. I used tftp but that just bricks the router. It will let me tftp back to Gargoyle - does that mean I am stuck with Gargoyle? Any help will be great.
