Force Clients To Use Router DNS Servers

Post by pmerrill »

I'm wanting to use the function Force Clients To Use Router DNS Servers found on the Connection/Basic page but only for some clients.

In order to do that I've set up a restriction on the Firewall/Restrictions page under Application Protocol > Block Only > DNS and the rules apply to only certain hosts as defined by their MAC address.

Will this work?

If not, how does one set up a firewall rule to only prevent some hosts from changing their DNS server?

Just doing a bit of reading and wondered if this may work? All I'd need to add is the MAC addresses of the clients I wanted to block.

Ok?

didn't we cover this last summer? http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... g66#p19162

I use a restriction to block the dns requests from a certain client range so if they aren't configured to use the routers dns no dns queries are serviced. Any other clients can use internal or external dns servers.
