Best Router

Post by pmerrill »

Just wondering, with 1.5.10 now out. What's the best router to use with this release? I have had wireless dropout issues with routers from TP-Link running this release, I'm just looking for a router that can run 1.5.10 with *no* problems at all, especially wireless dropouts.

So, a challenge to all the forum readers, anyone have a router that is working "perfectly" on 1.5.10?

Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH V1

D-Link DIR-601 A1

I suspect any that are fully supported by OpenWRT 12.09 will work

Some newer routers have support with OpenWRT 12.09 but
their wireless issues aren't resolved until the trunk releases.

Yes I am using Barrier Breaker on my WZR-HP-G300NH right now,
but just for testing purposes - works fine with Gargoyle 1.5.10

2x Asus RT-N16 = Asus 3.0.0.4.374.43 Merlin
2x Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH V1 A0D0 = Gargoyle 1.9.x / LEDE 17.01.x
2x Engenius - ESR900 Stock 1.4.0 / OpenWRT Trunk 49400

What do you mean until trunk releases? Will there be a new Gargoyle firmware?

Interesting that these are AR chipset that are working with Gargoyle with NO dropouts. The TP-Link 1043ND has the same CPU but does have dropouts, so perhaps it is the wireless chip where the problem lies? If this logic holds, then perhaps routers with the AR9385 or AR9103 will also work. Does anyone have a TL-WA901ND or TL-WR941ND working with no dropouts?

It depends on the hardware version of the router as well.

I believe the dropouts occur on the later versions of the WR1043ND

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd

I don't think wireless dropouts have occurred on any of the hardware
versions that were supported as early as the Backfire branch

From that link above, it looks like 1.8+ hardware has wi-fi issues

I should have added, most routers that were supported in the
early release candidate versions of Attitude Adjustment usually
work OK as well. This is because as they release newer RC's or the
final release, any prior issues got patched/fixed.

A device that is supported only by the final release of
Attitude Adjustment 12.09 may work, but not fully, might need
more patching/updates that are in the trunk, which means they
may not fully work with Gargoyle 1.5.10

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

I'm looking for a replacement for my existing Netgear WNDR3700v2. Its power supply just went down during Christmas, and now I survive it with another power supply. I'm not sure when it'll be gone for good.

I'm not too worried with the wireless, but I'm looking at some hi-powered CPU device with lots of RAM. In my current 3700v2, it's sometimes being driven to over 80% CPU (sorry, I forgot the RAM part) when my family members were enjoying P2P TV shows, sth like Netflix.

Thanks in advance for your advice.
