Cant connect gargoyle to modem

Post by mcEdie »

I'm having problems getting the PPPoE on my gargoyle router to work, the router is “tl-wr1043nd” using 1.4.7 Gargoyle Firmware.

The TL-WR1043ND wan port is connected to iiNets Bobs lan1 port bob is set to bridge mode I’m able to connect my computer to bobs lan port and make a PPP connecting in windows and the internet works but when I try to connect the Gargoyle router using the PPPoE it will not work.

I don’t know if a setting is Bob is stopping gargoyle PPPoE working or if I have done something wrong in gargoyle?

There are no known issues with PPPoE communications in Gargoyle.

The only things that I can think of that would prevent connection would be a bad username or password entered into the web page. Other things would be hardware such as a bad cable or connector on your router.

You might post your screen shots and then from the command prompt of your router type "logread" and post the results. Sometimes messages there will give a hint.

sorry for delay in getting back to you but had to work out the "logread" thing and to have the free time to get at the routers

Here is the relevant error message.

Your modem is not communicating with your router. Since you say that it works with your PC you might try copying the MAC address of your PC into the "Use custom MAC address" field in the PPPoE section of your router. That should fool the modem into thinking it is talking to your PC.

If that does not work then further investigation on your part will be needed and/or a call to the tech support line of your ISP.

Should my modem be showing up in the connected hosts page?, a few time after a reset of the router I can see my modems IP on the connected hosts page for about 30 sec then its gone

http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... =11&t=3656

found this post today could I be getting the same kinda problem if so changing to 1.5.9 should fix it?

Will try the  "Use custom MAC address" in the morning before I think about changing firmware

I got my hands on an old dlink router as a test to wan not working on 1.4.7 firmware thing and the PPPoE worked on the first try with the dlink so looks like gargoyle was the problem so I will change it from 1.4.7 to the newest 1.5 update next time I free time.

Just double checking I only need to download the sysupgrade.bin when going from 1.4.7 to 1.5.9 the factory.bin is for when changing from the default firmware?

Tried going from 1.4.7 to 1.5.9 router no longer works at all I cant ping it, wireshark isn’t showing any packets from 192.168.1.1, the power led lights up sys led will not light up at all, lan leds will light up if plugged in that’s it
