Router Hostname

Post by Jase »

This is more of a cosmetic sugestion than anything else.

Could an option be included to assign a hostname to a router running Gargoyle? Ive noticed the device name option does not do this. Also, is there a way of doing this through command line?

The only real reasons for it would be the fact that it makes the configuration page easier to get to in a web browser (for both the admin and for people who want to check on their quotas). It would also speed up running trace routes in windows (hostname lookup hangs on the gargoyle router as there is no name to lookup).

Ok, after a bit of SSHing to the router i have figured out that a hostname is applied to the router from the router name section and appears as user@hostname in the command prompt, however it appears the name is not applied to the local dns which is why its not being resolved i guess. Any chance of getting this changed so its listed in the local dns?

I know this thread is old, but it may help somebody else looking for the info.
The default hostname of the router is "Gargoyle", and the default domain name of the router is "lan". These can be changed in http://192.168.1.1/identification.sh.
So by default, you can access it at "http://Gargoyle.lan".
