How can I set up 2 quota's ?

Post by covert »

I have just installed gargoyle on a spare wrt54g v2 router to test out the quota counting.

My ISP give me 2 quotas. 20 Gig between 9am to 3am and 40 Gig between 3am to 9am.

I added an entire network quota for 03:00-09:00 for 40GB and it saved just fine.

I then tried to add a second entire network quota from 09:00-03:00 and I get an error. " You my have on one quota that applies to the entire network. Could not add quota."

Is there any way I can set up Gargoyle to count 2 quotes at different time slots ?

I don't use quotas myself... but this MIGHT work.

The logic is a little weird, but it should follow the requirements.

Only thing I'm unsure of is the time it resets and the requirements
of one of the quotas looping to the next day.

This should work as long as you do NOT add specific quotas
for individual IP's on the network.

You MIGHT have to swap the reset times on those 2 quotas.

This is not currently possible. You can't have more than one quota for a single IP address (unless you count an individual quota and a quota that applies to all IP addresses).

I may implement this in future releases, but for now you can't do it.

Is it possible to maybe implement the opposite of that as well?

Where multiple specified IP's can fall under the same quota? It would be useful when dealing with someone who has multiple computers and/or other devices. Maybe just allow for a range of ip's instead of just a single one? You're already calculating the combined Upload/Download, which is damn useful.

I hope you do add this in the future Eric. It is very common in Australia for ISP's to have split quota's. Not sure about the rest of the words. We are a bit backwards here when it comes to technology. Must be the being on the upside down part of the world.

Yeah, I have a bunch of buddies down in AUS.

I always hear their cries of pain and anguish about quotas and
being shaped after a certain time, etc...

We have quite a bit more bandwidth available to us here in USA.

I mean, you have to consistently go over 250GB a month,
multiple times, to get yelled at by your ISP...

Hopefully you guys down in AUS can get some cable ISP's
and drum up some competition soon!

Actually they are the worst of the lot for pricing and value. There is some hope as a national fibre network is rolled out over the next decade (it was an election promise) but it seems likely the download caps and high prices will remain. The main problem is our remoteness from the main source of internet traffic (USA) and reliance on just a few undersea cables who's owners can charge what they like.

Ahhhhhhh, my total allowance is only 5gig a month, and only 1gig is peak time!
