Post by tmwy »

I am currently using a Netgear wndr3700 v1 with dd-wrt, how do I convert to Gargoyle?? Can I just flash it use the GUI?
there are 3 files: factory.img, factory-NA.img, and sysupgrade.bin, which one should I use?
Thank you!

I was in the same boat several days ago.
I have the WNDR3700v2.

dd-wrt refused to leave my router, I had to do a factory firmware restore to Netgear stock before going to Gargoyle.
Please make sure you have the original Netgear disc, or at least get the tftp restore app from Netgear. I could not find the tool on the Netgear website but it was on my disc as either an installable version and a portable version.
After you verify you have the tool to get the netgear firmware back in place you can proceed. Please read all steps before starting.

My steps were:
1. Press and hold down reset on the bottom of the router with paperclip.
2. While doing step 1, power off router. (power switch)
3. While doing step 1, power on router, and wait about 45 seconds. When the power light starts blinking orange you should continue step 1 for another 5-10 seconds.
4. Load the Netgear restore app and it will take over restoring your router back to netgear stock.
5. When it completes you may then load the gargoyle firmware through the Netgear menu on your router.
6. The gargoyle firmware you want is the "gargoyle_1.5.6-ar71xx-wndr3700-squashfs-factory-NA.img" for NorthAmerica or "gargoyle_1.5.6-ar71xx-wndr3700-squashfs-factory.img" for Other Regions.

I provide no warranty, but this is exactly what I did for my v2.

When you installed 1.5.7 onto the WNDR3700v1, can you get openvpn server to work?
