[solved] upnp mediastreaming does not work

Post by smiler »

Hello,

first, thank you for this really exiting piece of router software!
I´m using it on my 2nd router device working as wireless client bridge and the setup was so fast an easy, I couldn´t believe.

Only a small part isn´t still working I hope someone can hlp me to find out why and to fix it.

I have the following setup :

Code: Select all

|DSL-Modem|---cable---|Router 1|---wlan---|Router 2|---cable---|desktop|
                               | |---cable---|server|
                               |---wlan---|PS 3|
                               |---wlan---|laptop|

  • Router 1 is a Netgear WNDR3700 with Openwrt 10.03.1-rc5
Router 2 is a Linksys WRT54GS with Gargoyle 1.5.0 configured as wireless bridge
***** Edit *****
After posting this post ;-) I've seen, that the quote section does not show my network config in a readable form. So I try to explain with words:

- Router 1 is my main device which enables the connect to the internet, serves ip adresses with dhcp and acts as a wlan access point for wireless clients like laptops and my ps3.
- Router 2 is configured as wireless client bridge and is connected by wlan to the Router 1
- A Desktop and a server are connected by cable to router 2. They get internet access and ip addresses fromn router 1. Everything semms to work fine except upnp media streaming and wake on lan

****************

I´m trying to stream movies and music from my server to my ps3. For testing purposes I also tried to stream from my desktop to a laptop. But it didn´t worked in both cases.
But when I start an upnp server (i´m using mediatomb) on a laptop my ps3 can see it and my desktop can see it, too.

Any hints where can I start to research?

Thanks i advance for any help

Best regards

Thomas

You need to disable the repeater, then it should work: http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... f=6&t=1765
Router: TL-WR1043ND - Gargoyle 1.5.4
AP: TL-WR1043ND - Gargoyle 1.5.4

hello hnl_dk,

thank you for your reply.

This sounds promising.
But the only place where I can find the word repeater in gargoyle webui ist where I can choose how the router should work: as "gateway" or as "wireless bridge/repeater"

Do you mean I have to let gargoyle work as gateway? That's what I don't want to do. I need the bridge functionality because I don't want to have different subnets.

Or am I wrong? Do you mean another place in the Webui where I can disable something "repeater" functionality and keep the wireless bridge?

thanks for your help

Best regards

On the same page where you choose if it should be a "wireless bridge/repeater", you need to look a little but lower on the same page, where you set the wireless options.
There you should see an option "Repeater:", where you can choose "Repeater Disabled".

Hello hnl_dk,

thank you for this fast reply, again.

Ok, it seems I have to look more carefully to the webui. ;-)
I will check that today evening.
Thanks for your help!

Hello,

So I was looking very careful on my gargoyle config interface, but unfortunately I couldn't find a possibility to change repeater settings in gargoyle.

I'm attaching a screenshot for verifying-

Image

Is there a possibility on command line to find what's the state of this repeater setting?
btw. what's the benefit of enable/disable repeater. What happens in the network configuration with this setting?

why is this setting not available on my linksys wrt54gs?

best regards and thanks for any help

disable repeater

I hope that someone knows it.
Maybe your router is not able to be a repeater, why it is not an option :?:

Hello hnl_dk,

yes, I think this could be a possibility. Perhaps my WRT54GS is to old for having this repeater functionality.
But, if it doesn't have repeater capabilities there is no need to disable it and therefore upnp and "wake on lan" (see my other post) should work.
But they don't work :-(

Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction for getting upnp media streaming to work in my network?

hnl_dk, thanks for your help

I'm looking forward to get my problems solved

Best regards

Hello,

has someone s network infrastructur like me? And a working upnp server?
Will my setup never have a working upnp server for my ps3?

It's quite funny (ok only a little bit), Upnp only works from devices connected to my device router 1 to devices behind the gargoyle device and device connected to router 1 as well. But it doesn't work from devices "behind" the gargoyle device to devices connected to router 1.

But Wake on lan (WOL) work only in the other direction... (look my other post with my wol problem)

Who can help me to get out of this trouble?

Many thanks in advance

Best regards

Thomas
