Unable to access Gargoyle Router as a Wireless Bridge

Linksys 54GL

I had no problems installing Gargoyle onto my 54GL router. However, I noticed the router seemed to have difficulty running Gargoyle on it. Whenever I activated QoS, my network began to have problems.

So, I purchased a Gargoyle Pocket Router. It works fine. Yea!

Now, however I'm trying to use my Linksys 54GL as a wireless bridge, so my room mate can connect his non-wireless devices to it.

I went into my Linksys+Gargoyle router and choose the setting "Wireless Bridge/Repeater" and changed the IP address to "10.100.100.100". I then hit save.

My web browser attempted to load 10.100.100.100, but the page timed out. I waited a little while and attempted to load the page again, manually typing in the IP address, hitting the reload button, and just plain waiting, and waiting, and waiting.

I attempted to connect to the router via its original IP address 192.168.1.1, but it is not responding there either.

I've power cycled the router (didn't expect that to work and) it didn't work. I've tried resetting the router using the button on the back (not even sure if that button will work, or is supposed to work now) and connecting to it with 192.168.1.1, but that didn't work either.

I've looked for it wirelessly, Windows doesn't see it, nor does InSSIDer 2.0.

I'm completely lost and not sure how to go about this. I'm not really a networking guy, although I've taken a few classes for it, I'm really not. I'm definitely lost as to what to do about this router now, please help.

Is there an easy way to reset it without flashing it? The reset button doesn't seem to be working.

Follow that to recover your WRT54GL

If you cannot follow that guide or for some reason the guide does
not work, you are either doing something wrong or you have a
hardware error - that guide always works to recover a router.

UNLESS you have done something very wrong and need to JTAG recover

From what you say, I doubt you need JTAG, TFTP should work for you

If at all possible, use a Windows XP machine as Windows Vista/7
machines have a harder time performing the TFTP recovery.

The 30/30/30 method didn't work.

I attempted the 30/30/30 method three times. I still can't get the web-page interface to come up.

I don't really want to open up my router if I don't have to.

I have successfully installed Gargoyle on this router. It was working fine until I changed the settings trying to bridge it.

The basic problem here is that your selected IP address of 10.100.100.100 is not in the subnet of your upstream router. This is required as noted on the Connections->Basic setup screen. As a result you have broken you DHCP server function.

To access your router and change it manually set your computers IP address to 10.100.100.2. Then you will be able to access your router at 10.100.100.100 and change this setting.

Regarding your original problem of QoS not working on your WRT54GL. I have tested this and found it to work OK. I would be interested to know what exactly you mean by "Whenever I activated QoS, my network began to have problems".
