TP-Link Archer C7

Post by AX90 »

Hello,

I was able to buy a TP-Link Archer C7 and looking for support on these questions:

1) Which file shall I download? Now the router has the original TP-Link firmware

2) Can I restore after installing Gargoyle the settings from the existing router (Also TP-Link Archer C7)

3) Can I disable in the User Interface the Disable Bandwidth Monitor or I still need SSH

4) Is Web Usage available in the latest firmware release?

I do not use the WiFi features, this is covered by the Unifi Access Points.

Thank you!

1. With word 'factory' in file name (double check the device HW version)
2. Did you mean from gargoyle installed on the similar Archer C7? If the HW version is the same -- I think yes. If not -- I'd setup from the scratch.
3. Have not seen such functionality in UI
4. Yes, I've been using it in 1.13.0 and it is still available in the most recent 1.15.x (beta). I believe it is also available in the most recent stable version that is 1.14.0 atm

Many thanks Fifonik!

If I use the same router, currently with gargoyle 1.12, can I just upgrade to 1.14?

It is not recommended to preserve settings in this case.

If I understand correctly you are talking about setting up the new router with gargoyle (not upgrading existing one).

In this case, if I were you I would do the following:
1. Backup your existing gargoyle router config;
2. Install the same gargoyle version (1.12) to the new router;
3. Restore settings from old router (from step 1) to new router;
4. Adjust settings (such as modify router name/IP, WiFi AP names);
5. Upgrade gargoyle on new router (1.12 to 1.14) preserving settings;
6. Check. If something wrong -- reset and configure from the scratch.

Some people saving some files and restore them after upgrade without preserving settings (search in forum).

For setting up from the scratch it could be helpful to visit some pages on your old gargoyle router in Firefox (I'm using browser PaleMoon for this, but I hope it is also works in FireFox), then press Ctrl+S and save page as mhtml. So later you will be able to open such archived pages in browser (Ctrl+O) and copy paste some values into freshly installet gargoyle.
You may want to save the following pages:
- Connection | Basic
- Connection | DHCP
- Firewall | Port Forwarding
- Firewall | QoS * (if use it)
- Firewall | Quotas (if use it)
- System | Restriction (if use it)
- System | Identification
- System | Plugins
- System | Router Access
- System | Time

Saving mhtml does not work in Chromium based Vivaldi -- some settings not displayed when you open such page later (not tried in Chrome/Edge).
