new router recommendation for NZ
I haven't used Gargoyle since my kids moved out of the house... I now just use a stock OpenWRT on a MikroTik.
But a colleague now has kids of an age where he'd like to manage their 'bandwidth', and he was asking about getting Gargoyle set up, like I used to have....
I thought it would be easy to find a compatible not-entry-level router in the NZ market; it certainly was when I got my TL-WR1043 many years ago...
But I am struggling to find one that's appropriate for the high-speed fibre networks we now have (I was able to find an Archer C20, but it seems a bit light).
So any there any suggestions for sourcing a new Gargoyle-compatible router in NZ?
I'm also thinking of upgrading my own router which is also not really ready for a Gigabit Internet connection.

I have the same problem
The two options I'm down to are
Banana Pi BPI-R64 Router board (get the cover and power supply package)
https://banana-pi.org/en/bananapi-router/28.html
or
x86 mini PC
https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale- ... outer.html
The mini PC is much more powerful but has limited wifi to no wifi even if you chosen device has a wifi card. x86 gargoyle wifi support is limited at best.
So I'm looking at mini PC plus external AP (wifi)

Re: new router recommendation for NZ
Well, I feel a bit better then, knowing that it's not just me...
I like the idea of the Banana Pi (I have a Raspberry PI 4 running AlmaLinux doing a few little things for me), but it's a bit more DIY than I'd like. Especially for my colleague who is not so technically inclined.
There are a few IPQ4xxx devices on the OpenWRT hardware list that I might be able to get hold of, but they are not on the Gargoyle list.
The MikroTik hAP ac3 being one that seems both reasonably capable and readily available (https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/mikrotik ... hnd_hap_ac).
Do I make a request to have it added over on the development forum?

Re: new router recommendation for NZ
I didn't see the firmware in the list, unfortunately.

It's a small target to support, so it is a little wasteful, but if you're set on it I'll add it.
The only thing would be that no one else would be able to test it, you'd be the guinea pig. I can't make any guarantees.

Specs are also a little underwhelming
On the plus side its wifi 5 and you can purchase it in New Zealand

hmmm.
Let me see what else I can find, first. I don't want to waste your time or mine.
Re: new router recommendation for NZ
It doesn't have to be a rocket, my colleague is currently using a telco-supplied technicolor router and doesn't have high-performance requirements.
would the Teltonika RUTX10 be any better?

Otherwise, I'll look at getting a wired-only Ubiquiti ER (already on the Gargoyle list) and setting up the telco router as a half-baked AP.
Re: new router recommendation for NZ
Yep we can do that one. I just did a test build and it compiles. Again i can't test it for you but it should be fine.
