Setting up Wireless Bridge
Hello, here is my issue. I am trying to set up a wireless bridge in my house. My whole house is wire networked, but I want to extend my wireless range. I want to enable a wireless bridge, but I don't want the APs to connect to each other wirelessly. I want to have a steady wireless signal throughout the house, but my gargoyle firmware AP repeater (Netgear WNDR3700)(upstairs) should connect to my main AP (downstairs) over the wired connection and use that to rebroadcast the wireless. What settings should I use to accomplish this?? As it is right now, it is connecting to my other AP wirelessly and rebroadcasting that signal. I do not want that setup. TIA for your help.
Re: Setting up Wireless Bridge
Hi, I am newbie and I would like to setup a wireless bridge too. In my case, the problem is the other way around.
My main router is WNDR3700 with stock firmware. I flashed latest firmware version 1.4 for another WNDR3700 and I use the setup similar to screenshot http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/lib ... bridge.jpg
I think it worked wirelessly for a few minutes and then it stops. If I use a cable to connect this router to the main router, then it works fine; but as long as I unplug the cable, it stops.
Then I tried a few things like enable/disable repeaters function etc and it becomes non responding anymore. I need to flash back to the stock firmware and will try again later.
You said that it works fine wirelessly in your case. Could you let me know what settings you use?
Also I assume that I do not have to do anything on the main router, correct?
Thanks.

Re: Setting up Wireless Bridge
It's not a good idea to mix/match different firmwares when trying
to do more advanced network configs.
You want to stick with the same types of firmware.
Too many different issues/incompatibilities result from the differences
and makes troubleshooting these things worse than being
locked in a porta-potty with a skunk!
If you're going to do this type of testing, you have to start off
VERY simple - like so.
1) set main router with stock firmware as the AP
2) set 2nd router with gargoyle as a Client
3) if trying to connect wireless-n - HAS to be WPA2-AES only
no other protection setting will work for wireless-n specification
4) if trying to connect on the 2.4 ghz wireless-G - use NO encryption
Again this is only for testing to make sure it connects
5) do this in the same room to prevent interference/signal loss.
If you can get it working in the same room, move one of the
routers to another room, and then test again.
Once thats done, add some security (if connecting wireless-G)
etc, etc. Need to do it in steps and 1 config change at a time.

2x Asus RT-N16 = Asus 3.0.0.4.374.43 Merlin
2x Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH V1 A0D0 = Gargoyle 1.9.x / LEDE 17.01.x
2x Engenius - ESR900 Stock 1.4.0 / OpenWRT Trunk 49400
Re: Setting up Wireless Bridge
Thank you for the tips. I will follow it. If anyone already did this way with WNDR3700-v1 and 1.4 firmware, please let me know. I saw a few posts about wireless bridge not working because of driver bug etc, and I am a little bit confused.
Thanks again, DoesItMatter.

Re: Setting up Wireless Bridge
Does Gargoyle support 5ghz N bridge wireless bridge setup? I've been trying to get if to work , but no luck. It recognizes my 2.4ghz N setup with no problems.
Is that why the wireless channel can not go any higher that 11 because it doesn't support 5ghz?

Re: Setting up Wireless Bridge
I started all over again and at first I also got disconnected after unplugging the wired cable. I was disappointed and was about to give up then the connection has been restored and since last night it was up all the time except for some short time when I plugged a USB disk to use it with my WDTV media box.
But zerorhythm is correct about 2.4 and 5ghz. Scanning would not show you the 5ghz band on the main router, only 2.4. But you have the WPA2 security, so not too bad.
I will need some more time to say if this bridge is working well or not.
BTW, thank you for the wonderful firmware. I used openwrt in the past and I liked it a lot. But it does take you a lot of time, so having Gargoyle makes my life mush easier.
P.S. Just OT, why the name 'gargoyle'?
