Gargoyle performance at RouterStation

Post by Abyss »

I just replaced OpenWrt on my RouterStation board (64MB ram and 680MHz CPU, 8MB flash) with Gargoyle. I have to say that the design, monitoring, QoS and Quota system impressed me. Good job !!! :-)

I'm using this router to connect 5 computers to a 1.5MBit/s network. It works fine - after I configured the network it works fine. My friend would like to use this board and firmware to connect but much more computers (30-50) to a ~20MBit/s link. Do we know what is the limitation of such configuration - how many computers and how much bandwith/connections can be handled by this configuration?

I know that it certainly RAM and CPU dependent. But maybe firmware dependent too. E.g. the max connection limit is 16384 with Gargoyle what is IMHO certainly low for such network. Any advice, experience is appreciated.

Thanks, Abyss

See that thread

People can get up to 60-70 mbps transfer rate on a linksys router

The specs for the Routerstation Board are much higher than
that router, so it should handle the speed and # of users without
any issues at all.

The only limitation I could possibly see if all the users tried to do
P2P or Torrents all at the same time.

I'm running 8 torrents simultaneously right now

Debian 6 - 8-DVD release torrents

I've seen around 2000+ connections and my router
WZR-HP-G300NH - runs those without any issues, and my normal
internet browsing/downloading/etc seems to run fine.
