How to Build from GIT (Atheros 231X/5312)?

I've read the documentation for building from the GIT as found here, but it only provides an example for how to build for the Atheros 71XX platform, I have a Gargoyle Pocket Router which requires the Atheros 231X/5312 version of the firmware.

The reason being is I currently have firmware 1.2.5, but need to update to the latest firmware for features such as throttling within quotas as soon as possible. However, I'm told that the current 1.4.2 release firmware has a bug where the ethernet port cannot be used as WAN, but I can get a fixed version from the git. I need these features asap and cannot wait for the next compiled release.

I'm new to building from GITs and I need some simple instructions for building from the GIT for only the Atheros 231X/5312 platform, as I understand building for all platforms will take even more time.

Any chance of having it compiled for Nanostation2 without losing configuration?
Since 1.3.9 that configuration is lost after a reboot.
1.3.8 is the last good version.
If not, what's the point of having a 1.4.2 .bin file for download if it doesn't work correctly??

I saw the directory from Atheros WLAN open source git ... Please make sure that you have '/lib/udev/firmware', request_firmware asks udev to launch this ...
