Port Forwading

Post by The_Hawk »

I have just setup a Netgear N600 (WNDR3700) with Gargoyle which seems to be running great for capturing usage, but I'm struggling to setup some of the finer points.

At the moment I have a Billion 7800NL with wireless disabled, DHCP disable and no port forwards or anything else in place.

The network goes

Billion modem -> Gargoyle (Netgear) -> switch -> computers.

The Gargoyle has a fixed IP and all seems to be working well...

But how do I setup port forwarding so I can use something like remote desktop when I'm away from home?

I have tried putting setting the gargoyle in the DMZ on the modem then port forwarding form the gargoyle with no luck... I'm sort of out of other ideas

I will also be setting up FTP and a few other bits and bobs, but being able to remote in is sort of critical.

I am now running the modem in bridge mode but still can't get the port forwarding to take effect...

The ports I have forwarded are timing out when probed and not showing up and "closed" as all the other ports are... just can't work out why they are not working :(

And now you can all ignore me...

Seems I hadn't updated the gateway information on the devices I was trying to access... a little tweaking and it's running fine :)
