WRT54G V2

Post by Millsie »

Hi Guys,

So I've read threads that say using a WRT54G V2 with gargoyle is possible but because of limited RAM/flash memory some features just can't be used?

So, first time really getting into routers (Been into computers for many many years now) is bandwidth monitoring on a WRT54G still possible? (4 hardwired computers and 1-4 wireless computers - 15megabyte down and 5ish up)

I'll do some more reading because I'm also really curious to see where gargoyle actually stores the bandwidth data/information on these routers, if the router gets powered off does the router lose all metered traffic? (I know it was like this for some DD-WRT scripts - since it stored it in the RAM)

Thanks for your time and input :)

Yes Gargoyle can run on your WRT54G v2 router, however, this is a rather limited router and quite dated now.

You will not be able to exceed around 8Mbps download with this router because of CPU limitations.

You will not be able to service more than a few clients (2-5) because of RAM limitations.

So if you want to see what Gargoyle can do and are willing to live with these limits it will be fine.
