My archer C7 V2 is toasted

Post by cpucpu »

Image

It served me almost 10 years. But I just removed the top plastic wrap, and underneath there were vents I didn't notice. It just rained here, and I have leaks...

My main PC is connected through ethernet, and the AC wifi seemed just fine. Other than that a couple of IP cameras, and a mini pc (frigate/hass). I think i can get another one for about 30 bucks from ebay. My main concern is the version, from what I remember newer ones were not compatible with gargoyle.

Is there any other device I should consider? or just go for it.

We support V1, 2, 4 and 5.

If your internet speed is likely to increase, maybe consider a more performant device.

Do you mean like one of the Marvell Armada XP/370 Routers? That list doesn't provide that many choices that aren't older models IIUC.

The latest supported device list is scattered through the code and on my site. Not sure which you would prefer to browse through.

In the code, look at the “profile_images” file for each target/profile

On my site, have a poke around, search the lists

Do I recommend the marvel devices?
It’s complex. They’re fast, should handle most connections fine. The wifi however is a mess.

Gemini listed as 'budget gargoyle-compatible ax routers':
TP-Link Archer AX23
Netgear WAX206 / WAX220
Cudy WR3000(h/s/e)
Xiaomi AX3000T

The first 2 are harder to get from ebay. Cudy is fine, but xiaomi is the cheapest.
Is there an image available for AX3000T?

It is mentioned in '/config' but not listed on '/profile_images'. Nor in your website. I checked OpenWrt's newest TOH and it's there. I'm aiming at ~50USD. Might need 2.

If that’s the one you’re interested in, I’m 95% sure we can do a build for it. I’ll try it shortly and let you know.
I don’t have any way of flash testing it of course.

I'd suggest carefully perusing the OpenWrt AX3000T ToH page, as it looks like there's a new version that's not supported by OpenWrt. The initial flashing process looks quite intricate too so I'd suggest installing OpenWrt 24.10.5 first - that way if you run into problems you have a much bigger community to seek help from. Once OpenWrt is running, installing Gargoyle would then be straightforward using OpenWrt's flash function to install a Gargoyle sysupgrade image.

The Cudy WR3000E is similarly plagued by a new version (v2) unsupported by OpenWrt.
