Typing this while hotspotting via my phone using data connection.

I did what you said, removed the block from pi-hole and added the entry to the dhcp file. Pinged aruljohn, had no problem pinging it! The change in dhcp file was clearly not picked up. Thought maybe the router needed a reboot, so did that.

Now my router is bricked.

DHCP no longer working at all. My PC is on 192.168.56.1, mobile phone can't connect to WiFi anymore.

Tried power off router then power on with reset button pressed for 15 seconds. No difference.

How do I get my router back to life?

What a saga.

Ok, got it working again by doing a reset, hard setting my ip to 192.168.1.10 and connecting to 192.168.1.1 and restoring settings.

But... that still leaves me with the original problem: aruljohn and tracemyip.

I will not be editing /etc/config/dhcp anymore.

What else can there be done?

I’m sorry for the inconvenience there. It is likely that the syntax was not right and dnsmasq failed to start. It did not a full reset but I can appreciate that is where you ended up to resolve it.

Other options: compile your own version and remove the offending entries. Can I support you in doing that or do you not want to go there?
I have no other options for you sorry

Please keep in mind that the aruljohn entry is fixed in the latest version, which you will not run for various reasons.
I will also add a safeguard against sending these localhost addresses out, but it will not be backported.

If you tell me exactly which version you’re running and which device (it was 1.14.0 right? Which device?) I am willing to compile a version for you which has no other changes except the removal of those two domains.
