Does Gargoyle handle IPoE?

Post by rockyd »

Considering changing ISP, and the one I am consider (Leaptel) offer PPPoE and IPoE. PPoe should be easy, but curious about IPoE.

curious about IPoE.
IPoE is otherwise known as DHCP, which is the default authentication mechanism ("DHCP (Wired)" in Gargoyle's WAN Connect Via list) on nearly all supprted devices.

Ok thanks.
My search indicated it was a bit more convoluted. Requiring an ISP modem on bridge mode and an ip in the DMZ zone.

Most NBN RSPs support IPoE (DHCP) now, with no complex connection requirements.
If they enforce authentication then it may be more convoluted.

My understanding for leaptel is that it is straightforward.

Yes it was simple, they also had a PPPoE option as well.

Though I noticed that there is no WAN up time with IPoE, I tried the PPPoE option and the WAN uptime returned.

Wondering why there is no WAN uptime with IPoE?

The uptime stat is a component of the PPPoE session itself. There is no stat tracked for what is effectively "DHCP".
