Wifi survey

Post by thecrazy »

Hi,

I know you can already do a wireless survey so this is noting urgent but if you ever have time for an easy mod...

I just wish we could do a wireless survey without having to mess around with the wifi config, like a page that shows everything, encrypted or not, even those networks not broadcasting their SSID.

Mostly to have an efficient way of figuring out which channels and wifi mode are free from traffic. I got a lot of wifi hotspots were I am, its a mess.

Something like a link in the wifi setup page that would open a pop up with all that info would be nice.

UPDATE: from what i read here: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=7044 there may allready be something in openwrt to do this, maybe just recycle the page from their web interface? article dates back to 2006, it should be fully functional by now. I just dont know if it shows networks that are not broadcasting, as a mater of fact i dont know if its possible.

According to that post, the relevant code is listed for scanning.

I don't know if there is a way to un-pack the firmware, but if it
is possible, you might be able to pull this page out:

/www/cgi-bin-status.html

and winscp a copy to a gargoyle install and see if it shows the info?

Looks like X-WRT has not developed at all for backfire, so I don't know
how successful it would be to just pull code out and use it on
the current releases of Gargoyle.
