1.) I like to follow directions explicitly but the Supported Routers page says to use the factory.bin file and all I see is factory.img
2.) Also, even though the same page says the WRT-32X is fully supported, when I go to the downloads, the only version available is called "experimental".
Don't wanna brick my new router. Is is OK to proceed with using these two files for my Linksys 32X:
gargoyle_1.11.0-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt32x-squashfs-factory.img
and then,
gargoyle_1.11.0-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt32x-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
factory.bin vs. factory.img

Re: factory.bin vs. factory.img
Just use the factory image, there is no need to flash twice (where do people keep getting this advice?)
If you're going to use 1.11, you should use the latest version from the Show and Tell forum to gain the latest fixes and enhancements.

Re: factory.bin vs. factory.img
Thank you Lantis.

Under "Marvell Armada XP/370 Routers:" It seems to be saying I should upload 2 files in succession although it doesn't specifically say so. Practically speaking, I would upload the factory image file, then check the firmware and if it matched the latest version, stop there. If not, run the upgrader, too?
I take what it says on this page that way:Where do people keep getting this advice...

Re: factory.bin vs. factory.img
Ok I understand the confusion.
All that is trying to tell you is:
- if you're coming from the OEM firmware, use the factory installer
OTHERWISE
- use sysupgrade
There's no "upgrader" per se. You download the latest version and load it accordingly (per the above rules for choosing which file to use).
In theory you can use the same process to "downgrade", "upgrade" or even flash the same version again. It's all the same process once you're on Gargoyle
The other thing to note is that we have the official releases that you can get from the download page, and also releases from community members which are more up to date and contain the latest fixes between official versions.
It's up to you which one to use, but i would always recommend the latest if you can.
