TP-Link WR1043N v5
I recently bought a TP-Link WR1043 from Amazon so I could flash Gargoyle on it. I found out that what I bought was only WR1043N and not WR1043ND. It is HW v5.
It appears this is unsupported and I now have an older router without Gargoyle. Is there a way to get this router to have gargoyle or do I need to order another? Also, I cant seem to find HW v on Amazon before buying.
Thanks

Your router is not supported. You should return it to Amazon.
Look for the router you want on EBay. Also in the store on this site (which unfortunately is currently sold out).

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
If you want to stick with the WR1043 series, the "N" and "ND" models are the same as far as flashing Gargoyle.

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
I thought it would be the same, but when I tried to flash the v2 image on my v5 hardware, it would not work.
The tplink UI said that this operation was not supported for remote management.
"this operation not allowed for remote management"
Do I have to ssh into the router and do it via cli?

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
The hardware is closer to v4 not v2 so I wouldn't flash that.
And the header IDs are wrong and hence rejecting your image.

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
I only see v1 and v2 for HW3 nothing for HW4. Am I missing something?
Which gargoyle version do you think is best for attempting this? do I need to hack the headers or something to make it work? Or maybe best to return and try older model?

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
I think you need to start on LEDE, and search their forums.
Gargoyle will be rebased onto LEDE in the next 6 months. But until then we won't have the ability to even generate a v4 image.
If you find something that works on LEDE, then hopefully we can see you back here next year

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
I too ended up with a WR1043N v5 instead of the WR1043ND v3 I ordered.
I have been searching for an alternative to the stock firmware and found this: https://forum.lede-project.org/t/tp-lin ... -0/4538/43
As of right now, I have been unable to flash it, but at least it is a start.

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
I have two WR1043ND V2. I had persistent wifi problems with latest Gargoyle builds.
I have now reverted and reflashed to latest LEDE build.
Everything working fine at the moment, my "customers" are not reporting problems.
One of several PITA with LEDE compared with Gargoyle, is the GUI. The others are that UPNP and DDNS have to be loaded as a package and don't arrive in the image flash.
Hopefully Gargoyle LEDE will arrive to my satisfaction later in 2018. Looking forward...
Now running WRT1200AC with Gargoyle. Hopefully with different hardware, WiFi will be happy.

Re: TP-Link WR1043N v5
Just to confirm,
Even if I flash LEDE first and try upgrading the system with gargoyle snapshot. It will not work due to it being v5? none of the v1-v3 will work correct?
I had figured since it was N and still part of the series it would work.
