Hi,
I have tried changing the firmware in the router GUI and get a 18005 error related to the firmware version which I believe is becasue the factory installed firmware does not allow anything other than official TP-Link upgrades or something.
So I looked around and found a way to get DD-WRT on it which has worked. It seems Gargoyle cannot be flashed direct from DD-WRT (I tried and it didn't work as expected) so the recommendation is to use the specific DD-WRT .bin to get the router back to factory (which I also successfully did) and then try to flash with the Gargoyle .bin. Again I received the 18005 error as it returned the router to original firmware. There is an earlier version of the firmware for v11 on the TP-Link downloads page and as part of the DD-WRT install I got this version onto the router using TFTP but the issue is still the same with the 18005 error.
So far what I have done has stretched my IT abilities so if there is no simple solution (i.e. without pulling the router apart and attaching a serial port) I might just give up on the whole exercise and see if I can find a different cheap router that will work out of the box.
Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance

Please attempt a TFTP installation.
The stock firmware checks the file for a specific country headed which Gargoyle doesn't have.
You may get away with installing the latest LEDE snapshot, and then doing a sysupgrade to Gargoyle.

Re: TL-WR841N v11installation help required
Hi,
I've recently obtained a TP-Link WR841N V11.1 and had been trying to install Gargoyle on it. However the router soft bricked every time Gargoyle is installed. I have tried flashing Gargoyle through stock TP-Link firmware, flashing router to OpenWRT then sysupgrade to Gargoyle and direct TFTP flashing (factory.bin file). I've also tried flashing V10 firmware into the router. None of above method seems to work.
OpenWRT firmware for V10 and V11 seems to work fine on the router.
Anyone has other method that I could try?
Thank you

Like the OP I too have been having trouble installing Gargoyle firmware onto TL-WR841N v11. It seems like a solution was found:
Thanks for any help,

However I'm not 'techy' enough to understand what a LEDE snapshop or TFTP is. Is there a way for me to install Gargoyle without the specialised knowledge? Or is there a walkthrough I can follow with a bit of Googling to increase my knowledge?Awesome, that worked. Thanks very much for the help
