Assigning hostnames to MAC addresses

Post by cwswpl »

I'm just setting up my new WR1043ND with Gargoyle 1.8.1.

Very interesting to watch the usage of individual devices, but hard to work out which is which from their dynamic IP addresses, and would prefer to be seeing Hostnames, but most not showing.

Our devices are mainly Windows and Android, eventually Gargoyle seems to work out the Windows machine name, but it takes a long time, and although it quickly shows the Android names they are unhelpful hard-coded text strings which my research indicates can only be changed by rooting the phones, which I don't want to do (and can't do for visitors).

Is there a way that I can register the device MAC addresses with Gargoyle and tell it what Hostnames to display for each?

Connection -> DHCP
Assign them all static IPs with an associated "friendly name"

Please be respectful when posting. I do this in my free time on a volunteer basis.
