Stability - Best Router
Hey guys,
I have been using Gargoyle for a while now and I love its features but I have been having stability issues from Day 1.
Initially I had a WRT1900AC v2 and I put the stability issues down to it running really hot and overheating.
I then purchased a WRT1900AC v1 but I have been having router freeze problems to the point that I am now having to power cycle the router about 4 times daily.
I have tried 1.9.0, 1.9.1 and ispy builds all with similar results.
So I think I am gonna get rid of my WRT1900AC and get something that is gonna be more stable.
So I am looking for the following in a router:
- Stability.
- Suitable for a 50/20 nbn connection
- Fast wifi
- Gargoyle compatible
Can anyone make any suggestions please?

Re: Stability - Best Router
Hi there mate a lot of the instability is caused by the wifi drivers but there is a updated driver out you can read a litel about it in this thread.

You can download a build with the new wifi driver here:

Tried installing that version.
Got through entering all of the data and bamm, crash.
Router reboots.
When it restarts it is back to 1.9.0 again.

Hi dude 1.9.0 was buggy. pleas try flashing to 1.9.1 again the 1900AC has 2 flash partitions, I think that your router rebooted back to the second flash partition which has 1.9.0 on it.
Manually switch the router from primary to alternate partition or vice versa [backup] partition:
1.
Power off router with power switch.
2.
Turn power back on and Power LED will light.
a.
As soon as all LEDs turn off (~2s), power off router with power switch
3.

4.

5.
Turn power back on and allow router to fully boot.
It should now be booted to the alternate firmware partition (mtd5 or mtd7)

Re: Stability - Best Router
Thanks for that info.
I didn't realise it had two partitions. That could be useful.
I fully installed 1.9.x and got it running but having an issue. It is connected but seems to be an issue in resolving dns name lookups.
Ill run some more tests this morning

Re: Stability - Best Router
Ok so this is what is happening.
Reboot router
Open a cmd window and set a continuous ping test happenimg to my isp Web page.
Ping responds fine for about 10 seconds and then request timed out.
At this point it is like no signal can exit the router on the wan side but all lan side stuff seems fine
Any ideas?

Re: Stability - Best Router
A have installed 1.9.1 on the alternate partition for the time being and the issue does not happen in 1.9.1

Would a v2 be of any use to you?
Its no good for extended use because it overheats but might be useful for testing.... ?
