Setting custom host names

Post by nocturne »

Is there a way to set custom host names for devices connected to my router other than assigning a static IP address for each device?

I am running 1.9.1 on a TL-WDR3600.

A search of ye olde google turned up this: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4835 but it only refers to setting a static IP address for each device.

The web interface on my cellular router has an option to nickname any connected device.

You can but that will be done at the command line using UCI and the DHCP config (I think).

Is there any reason you don't want to set static ip?

I didn't want to set static IPs because I was hoping there was an easier way. On my cellular router you just click in the host name and type in a name. I have gone through and set static IPs for almost all of our devices now.

Most of gargoyles functionality relies on static IPs anyway so it's worth doing.
