WPA2 Gargoyle STA with Cisco Aironet LWAP + WLC drops packet
Hello, All,
I am having some issues using BulletM2 radios with both Gargoyle 1.3 and 1.6.
Wireless Infrastructure is Cisco Aironet 1552 with 5508 WLC.
BulletM2s with gargoyle 1.3 or 1.6 work just fine with WEP encryption.
When using WPA2 PSK AES, bullets establish communication, maintain association, but start dropping packets to the AP for minutes.
When communication problems are happening, both bullets and cisco controller say bullets are associated but no data goes through for many minutes.
Problem is easy to reproduce and communication will come and go....
Issue does not seem to happen when bullets are loaded with AirOS from ubiquiti.
Has anybody else experienced these issues?
Is there any configuration on wpa supplicant that would avoid having this problems?
Thanks,
Luiz

Have you tried a later version to see if the problem persists?

Yes.
I have tried 1.8 version and still gives same issue (but less often).
Going deeper in troubleshooting I verified that DOWNstream (AP->Radio) does not stop. Upstream (Radio->AP) fails when the issue is happening.
Also seems to recover faster in case we have more upstream traffic trying to be sent.
Radio still seems to be transmitting ACKs but no data...
Could that be something wrong on the ARPNAT Bridge?

1.9.0 and 1.8.1 are not that stable
your best choice is:
1.6.2 or 1.9.x
1.9.x found here

I am doing testing with 1.6.2 also.
As the other versions:
WPA2 stops sending traffic to the AP
WEP has no issues
I would like to add some debug code to see what is happening....
Should I look at doing that on the bridge part, nl80211 or supplicant?
The radios work just fine with the factory firmware (airOS).

Do you experience the same issue with Openwrt?

Sorry... I still did not have a chance to test with chaos calmer (will try to do soon)... but looks like the issue is somehow related to the transmit data rates being used on the gargoyle side.
If I disable ht data rates, down and up the interface, communication seems to happen correctly from the station (bullet) to the AP.
iw wlan0 set bitrates legacy-2.4 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54 ht-mcs-2.4
With MCS data rates enabled, communication fails after some time.

If you can will you pleas test latest 1.9.x that will help the devs see that the bug has not bin fixed. If it is still buggy with 1.9.x then try the latest openwrt. if the bug is not in openwrt then we will know that it is the Gargoyle code being a bugger!
