Tonight I realised that I had not turned off the wifi on my bridged modem. So to do this I thought I could just enter the IP address 192.168.0.1. My gargoyle hardware (TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v3) is on 192.168.1.1 (a typical setup)
But that did not work. So I checked subnet mask, changed to 255.255.0.0. Thought that would fix it but it didn't.
Can't ping the bridged modem (which is a Telstra cable modem).
Do I have to physically connect directly to the cable modem? Can I connect to the cable modem via wifi (this connection still automatically connects) and then access the modem webpage?

they are both (most likely) 255.255.255.0
On your connection PC you need to change to the same IP range
192.168.0.x
say

Yes that is where I started. I will try direct connection to the telstra modem.

Just a point from left field, are you sure Telstra modem is on 192?
Default is 10.0.0.138

I could have sworn that was the case, HOWEVER Telstra have just upgraded it so perhaps my memory is from the previous one? But to be honest I doubt it. Will try when I get home.
