How to update firmware (TAR file)?

Hi, sorry if my first post here is a stupid one but... how do I update my firmware from a TAR file? I get the fact that BIN files are for flashing from the original firmware, but I couldn't find any info on TAR files...
If it makes any difference, my router is a Netgear WNDR4300 and the firmware filename ends in ...wndr4300-squashfs-sysupgrade.tar

Do I need to SSH in and unTAR or something?

Just upload the sysupgrade tar file to the router using the GUI.

System -> Update Firmware
