Hi Lantis

The new patched version of firmware worked fine on my router. Thank you for this.

Quick question on backup config file. I have a backed up config file with all the firewall and quota settings etc. from my old router tplink (wdr3600). It was running Gargoyle 1.8.0 before it crashed Will it work if I restore it on my new tplink Archer c 7 router ?

Thanks again for all your assistance.

You could probably manually restore the quota one, but I think the firewall one will cause a problem.

Is there a way to know for sure which version you have? I recently purchased two C7s from Amazon Warehouse Deals and they appear to be unused but I still have no idea how old they are. Does the new patched version work with older Archer C7 v2 routers as well?

yes it does. manufacture date will probably tell you. first reports of the new flash chip were late 2015.

What new firmware are you talking about? 1.8.1, 1.9.0

I read the whole thread but it's not clear to me what people are using right now. I bought my C7 V2 at Thanksgiving 2015. I'm thinking that I have the new flash chip as well...

Thanks!

Thanks, Lantis. Is Eric still heading up the project? I don't see any recent builds. I was using this several years ago for a specific purpose and it worked flawlessly. Looking forward to implementing it again on my C7 V2.

Is it ok to buy an "Archer C7" now?

I want to run Gargoyle so was going to pick the Archer C7...just checking if this is OK to get? Or whether I should look at a different model? (if yes, any recommendation)

Eric is still the lead yes. I just contribute in my free time to lend a hand.
Eric only releases the major versions (1.8.0,1.8.1,1.9.0 etc). In between those builds lots of code changes happen, and minor releases are taken care of by myself (small one offs for testing specific problems) or ispyisail who does larger scale minor builds.

Yes the Archer is a safe purchase. I don't own one, but they are good value for money. I'm actually thinking of picking one up because they are so popular just so I can test things on it.

This fix has been implemented into the latest code (and ispyisail release). It's also been back ported to the openwrt release we are based on, so all that hard work for nothing  haha.
