OpenVPN - Connect 2 Lans

Post by Serg »

Hi, I was looking everywhere for answers, but I couldn't find any. Many topics are either outdated, unresolved or simply do not have the same issue.

What I am trying to achieve is connect 2 LANs over the internet, so they come together as one and can access samba storage.

Gargoyle v.1.8.1 - Netgear WNDR3700v2

This is a diagram of how my network is set up, and what the bare minimum is of what I am trying to achieve.

Gargoyle OpenVPN Server settings. I tried UDP and TCP, with router reboots after reconfiguring.

I did not mess around in config files. The Gargoyle router is not a DHCP server, although I tried enabling it without any luck. I forwarded the 1194 port on both routers. The router that is connected to the internet is also the modem. It was supplied by my ISP. Unfortunately, I can not change the physical layout of LAN1. Every component needs to remain connected the way it is.

I downloaded the supplied configurations and keys via the gargoyle web interface. The remote OpenVPN client connects and can access the gargoyle web interface via 10.8.0.1. The LAN, which is on 192.168.1.0 is not visible to the remote client. Clients on LAN1 can not see the remote client.

Is it even possible to get the desired result with this LAN layout?

Eric has stated that OpenVPN on gargoyle only does the basics

You might have more luck with OpenWRT
