Wireless N+G+B flaky

Post by arthng »

I have tried 1.8.1 and now 1.9.0. Sometimes my laptop will connect to Gargoyle but I don't have internet access and no access to the router 192.168.1.1. It assigns my computer the static address I set up. When I mouse over the icon on the bottom right of the windows screen it says Unidentified network No internet access. The signal strength is excellent and when I cable to the router it works. Rebooting the laptop does not work and the last time I had to turn off/on the router to get it working. My laptop has a builtin AR956x wifi card.

I am typing this on another laptop with a ralink wifi card. I have rebooted the router and now the wifi works on my laptop and not the other laptop. Works fine for IPads, IPhones and Android tablets.

This bug is a pain - any help will be great.

It was working for both laptops last night.

I have a WNDR3700v4 router.

More information...

I start the router and give it a few minutes to fully boot up.

When i switch on both laptops at the same time - one will connect and the other will have a faulty wifi connection.

When I switch on one laptop and allow it to boot up and get a wifi connection before switching the second laptop on - both will have working connections.

It appears the problem occurs when the two laptops are wireless connecting at the same time. I have tried this a few times times to make sure it is not a once off thing.

I would suggest you see if openwrt experiences this problem also.

Tried Gargoyle 1.9.0 for Broadcom (on an old router) and the wifi connection is fine - both laptops can be turned on at the same time. However, I did notice that one of the laptops connected after the first one connected.

I will need to get some installation and setup information on OpenWrt before trying it on the WNDR3700v4. I remembered the last time I tried it the LUCI interface was not very intuitive and that's why I decided to install Gargoyle.

Hurray!

After flashing to OpenWrt to do some testing and back to Gargoyle, the problem has gone away.

In future, I will always reflash as a first resort. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

Was able to duplicate the problem.

It was because I changed the wireless channel from 1 to 6. I have changed it back to 1 and it is fine. I thought my next door neighbour was running channel 1 but was actually channel 6. I am not sure whether is was a channel conflict or something else.
