I'm a long time user of DD-WRT and Tomato. I have recently switched to OpenWRT/Gargoyle as it has everything I need. That is, restricting the kid's YouTube time and CLI commands that work with my NAS.
I tried Gargoyle late last year but encountered a buggy web interface so did not persist with it - now I am guessing it may be because I did not erase nvram and dd-wrt before installing Gargoyle.
So, I got Gargoyle installed and it is working fantastic. Now, what I want to know is how to upgrade Gargoyle on a WNDR3700v4. It looks like it can't be done using the web interface as a .bin file is not provided. What is provided is a .tar file containing a kernel and root file. (I assume this is because the WNDR3700v4 uses NAND instead of NOR flash.) i am a new convert to OpenWRT and Gargoule so haven't got much of a clue.
Any guidance will be great. Thanks.

Re: Upgrading WNDR3700v4
The tar file should work ok. I think it's only the web string that asks for different extensions, I don't think it actually checks it.

Re: Upgrading WNDR3700v4
Thanks, the upgrade worked using the .tar file.
Version 1.8.1 wifi was buggy so I wouldn't recommend it.
Just upgraded to 1.9.0 and so far so good.
Note: The upgrading please wait message does not disappear. Just open up another window after a while and it has actually completed - otherwise you could be waiting a while.
