Blocking Netflix

Blocking Netflix
I am looking for help in blocking Netflix. We have a data cap of 20 GB (rural satellite internet access) and don't subscribe to Netflix because of this. However, my daughter "borrows" her friends password and streams Netflix through an iOS app and uses more than her fair share of data. I haven't been able to figure out how to block it. I tried blocking different IP addresses and different domains but she still seems to be able to access Netflix. Is there a way to block all Netflix?
Re: Blocking Netflix
I assume your using a shared device?
Re: Blocking Netflix
Most data these days is https which gargoyle has problem detecting.
Options
OpenDNS filters
Total data cap per device
In the end I ended up using Bitdefender parental controls

Re: Blocking Netflix
She watches on her own phone as well as a shared iPad. I am trying to avoid blocking her data completely when she goes over her allotment because she needs it for homework and communication with friends (no cell service where we live). I throttle her bandwidth when she goes over her cap. We have 12 megabits per second and it looks like Gargoyle measures in mega or kilo bytes per second, so I have to divide by 8, correct? For example, 1 megabyte per second is still pretty fast, correct? If I can't exclusively block Netflix, I want to make it painfully slow for her.ispyisail wrote:I assume your using a shared device?
Re: Blocking Netflix
Correct. Divide by 8.
Giving her 1 megaBYTE per second is 3/4 of your internet connection though. And still plenty for standard definition Netflix I believe.

That link might help you choose your limits.
My suggestion would be to use QOS to apply this limit.
Make a class with maximum speed of what you decide, and then the rule to get into the class would be, IP address = hers and connection bytes = 2048?
That way her regular internet browsing shouldn't be affected, but any streams over 2MB (like a video) become slowed.
You can play with the numbers until appropriate.
