CIFS shares - not working guest

Post by vinikon »

Hi people,

I think it's not only me who experience this issue;

Plugged in an external USB drive; set-up 2-3 directories; one of them has limited access - only registered user and no read for everyone;
Other ones are set to be read by everyone but r/w by a registered user;
Share type CIFS only
On a Win7 machine we could see all shares and by clicking any of them we get a windows prompt for password/user - so no read only access for everyone;
After entering these - we get full access to all shares;

Played with ALL possible settings in smb.conf(don't know which one to choose) - still nothing.

Please reply with an idea how to realize this.... it is NOT working as described in the scenarios FAQ etc. etc. we're very disappointed...

What should we do?

Thanks,

Long long ago I also noticed a similar issue with USB shared storage. I roughly recall that if I was connected to a share requiring a username/password then I could no longer connect to an anonymous drive. Something like that ...

If you could take the time to discover and document a very simple case that I can use to reproduce the error then it makes troubleshooting the code much easier.
Can you help someone else get Gargoyle up and running?
