4300 bricked. Advice as struggling..

Post by slewis1972 »

Ok, usually when I have bricked my 4300 v1.6 before - I can recover it, not this time. Tried to install gargoyle_1.8.1-ar71xx-generic-tl-wdr4300-v1-squashfs-factory

So, setup. Windows 10, telnet, ftft enable. Putty installed.
lan: 192.1681.2
subnet 255.255.255.255

Plugged into lan port 1 with std cable.

Never get a ping from 192.168.1.1

no matter what order I press the reset button, I usually just have power and ethernet light. If I press the WDS button just as I turn it on, I get the WDS light (far right) but believe this is before failsafe - I think

If I use wireshark, and set host 192.168.1.1 capture, what am I looking for as seeing traffic?

Tried using both guides on here and openwrt to no avail. Must be missing something......

Any advice appreciated.

over zealous with the 255 on my post. I had set it up as 255.255.255.0

I wonder if I should put a switch or router in between 4300 & laptop - will that make a difference?

Thoughts ...
if you are reflashing Gargoyle you should be using the ...sysupgrade image, not the factory

There are actually 2 routers with similar names: the Netgear WNDR4300 and the TP-Link TL-WDR4300. Be sure to download the correct image.

There are some additional installation/recovery steps for both of these routers on the openwrt website

Netgear WNDR4300
https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/wndr4300
See Notes Telnet (original firmware)

TP-Link TL-WDR4300.
https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wdr4300
see: de-brick or OEM installation using the TFTP recovery

Good luck - ans get back to us if still no luck
