WNDR3800 on 1.8.1 reboot loop
Hi,
My WNDR3800 started rebooting every few minutes today. No idea why it should suddenly start doing that but I see others have reported similar issue some time ago. I have upgraded to 1.8.1 but that hasn't helped.
I'm using it with a Telstra cable modem in bridge mode.
Any suggestions?
Should I try 1.9.x ?

Re: WNDR3800 on 1.8.1 reboot loop
Thanks Lantis, I figured I had nothing to lose so I have already been trying to upgrade to 1.9.0 but I have tried it twice and it's still on 1.8.1. It says it's upgrading but the page doesn't refresh so after about 15 minutes I just go to overview.sh and it's still on 1.8.1
Am I missing something?

I'd do a factory reset then try again. Something is broken.

Thanks, I will give that a go
Re: WNDR3800 on 1.8.1 reboot loop
I reset the router and it would still not upgrade, but I think I know where I went wrong. Because I couldn't see wndr3800-squashfs-factory.bin I used wndr3800-squashfs-factory.img and after re-reading the instructions I see I should use a .bin file
Before trying wndr 1.9.0 3800-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin I thought I would test the router again this morning after the reset - it is still on 1.8.1.
Although it is not under any load, it has now been up for over 90 minutes, whereas previously it was rebooting every few minutes. I assume therefore that when I upgraded from 1.8.0 to 1.8.1 and preserved settings, whatever was causing the problem was still there and resetting the router since upgrading to 1.8.1 has cleared the problem, along with all the settings.
I now need to configure all the ports, static IPs and rules etc, but before I do so I was wondering whether I should persevere with the upgrade to 1.9.0 ?

Re: WNDR3800 on 1.8.1 reboot loop
No do not preserve settings to 1.9.0.
If you're already at the state of having to set everything up fresh, I'd go straight to 1.9.0. Or even the latest 1.9.X from the ispyisail builds.

Re: WNDR3800 on 1.8.1 reboot loop
Thanks Lantis. Is 1.9.0 stable? I can't afford to experiment at the moment until I get myself a backup modem to swap with if something goes wrong with my Gargoyle.
As for the ispy builds, I can't work out how to get them

Re: WNDR3800 on 1.8.1 reboot loop
I've never had an issue with the 1.9.X branch.
The ispyisail builds require you to download the torrent (~300MB) and then extract the image you require from it.
It's done this way to be fair to all users and to spy's bandwidth lol.
Then the process is exactly the same as the normal downloads after that point.

Thanks again. Is there a place where links to the latest torrent files are listed?
I found this one

but there are no seeds
