witch miens that Netgear did not opensource the drivers for the wifi. Sorry but there is not a thing that can be dun about it.

what does this mean exactly? I'm not running gargoyle on the netgear r7000. I'm running gargoyle on the tp link wa850re. im trying to set up the wa850re as a repeater to the netgear r7000 which runs stock firmware.

so to summarize. I have connected my laptop to the wa850re via ethernet. I'm going at the connection menu, then basic, then I choose wireless bridge/repeater under device configuration. after that I'm trying to scan for networks and a message pops up "no wireless networks found". Am I doing something wrong? I used to be able to use the wa850re with stock firmware connected to the netgear r7000.

Not sure how to help you sorry mate.
I can't reproduce the error and I can't see any reason for yours not to work.

You could try reflashing the the firmware to check it isn't corrupt or even downgrade to 1.6.2 and see if that works.

I have a TL-WA850RE v1.2 with Gargoyle 1.8.1 works great. The only issue I've run into is u-apsd (WMM Powersave) on an older cell phone. However, running with WMM disabled works around the issue.

Is the SSID you want to connect to hidden?

I seem to recall not scanning for a network. I knew what channel, SSID, WPA2/AES password that I needed, dialed it in and rebooted. You may want to ssh in and look around, e.g. /etc/config/wireless, network, dchp and verify.
