G'day all,
I have been perusing this forum and many others or quite a while now and have decided that Gargoyle should meet my needs (over the other router flashes). Thanks for all the info and discussions, my brain has been fried many times in the past months.
I successfully installed Gargoyle_1.5.8-ar71xx-generic-wndr3700v2squashfs-factory.img
I just wanted to mention that the router had Netgear fw1.0.1.14 (above the recommended 1.0.0.8) and all went well (i think).
1.5.8 is an old build but was deemed to be very good by the community on the wndr3700v2. I was just wondering, before I spend hours setting up my home network (only to have my effort potentially reset due to upgrading) is there a better version of GG that suites the wndr3700v2?
If so, I would like to update now before I start setting up.
I have looked in the search but it seems hit and miss on later versions. I am quite happy to stay at 1.5.8 if you think that is the best option.
Your thoughts and wisdom would be appreciated.
Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR going into 2016!!
Cheers

Re: wndr3700v2 firmware suggestions please
I would recommend 1.9.0 as it is proving very stable as an experimental version. All of the bug-fixes and developments (security, technical and function) are going on in 1.9
Can you help someone else get Gargoyle up and running?

Thanks mate I'll give it a shot. Do I use the gargoyle_1.9.0-ar71xx-generic-alfa-ap96-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin file from the download page to upgrade? It is a .bin file and not a .img file. I thought I needed an img file for flashing.nworbnhoj wrote:I would recommend 1.9.0 as it is proving very stable as an experimental version. If you are starting from factory stock firmware use
gargoyle_1.9.0-ar71xx-generic-wndr3700v2-squashfs-factory.img
If you are starting from Gargoyle 1.5.8 then use
gargoyle_1.9.0-ar71xx-generic-wndr3700v2-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
do NOT attempt to preserve settings!

I thought that I had stuffed up the router. I could not access the GUI page telling me the password I set was incorrect. I followed the wiki and used tftp to reinstall Netgear 1.0.0.8 and started all over.
Install from the 1.9 factory image went without a hitch.
Now the fun begins trying to set up a GB limit for my bandwidth hogging son

The user interface is very different on 1.9 to the older versions.
Where is the "quota" function in 1.9?

Re: wndr3700v2 firmware suggestions please
Well, for anyone perusing this thread and reading my comments, the interface is actually NOT different. I'm an idiot. My brain was fried from trying to get the TFTP to work due to my Gargoyle password not letting me log-in, that after hours and hours of fixing, I mistakenly flashed the wndr3700v2 with DD-WRT that I had in the same folder as the Gargoyle firmware. Now that I know how to TFTP, it was a simple task to get back to Netgear 1.0.0.8 and then upgrade to GG 1.9Aussie in AZ wrote:The user interface is very different on 1.9 to the older versions.

I now have Gargoyle 1.9 flashed and the interface is the same (or very similar ) to 1.5. My bad.
And hey, I can now find all the seetings I was lost trying to find

Cheers
