Router decides to not use the DNS given.

While I'm really fine about the router doing it, I'm not fine when it's doing it wrongly.

At http://192.168.1.1/overview.sh , under WAN DNS, it uses the custom dnses i've specified, then it switches the DNS to 192.168.2.1 (that's my modem ip actually). There is no DNS there, so it causes EVERYTHING on the network to get stuck trying to get dns resolve. Currently using Force DNS settings to see if it helps. I've only been using Gargoyle for a few hours

SPECS: DIR-300 on Gargoyle 1.2.3
Current solution: Disable modem's DHCP.

Oh and thank you for creating gargoyle. Definitely better in internet speeds than dd-wrt, and more stable than x-wrt (x-wrt crashes on me every 10 mins, hahaha). Nice QoS too.

What version are you using? In particular are you using the new 1.3? Also, are you connecting via PPPoE?

I've had some problems with DNS and PPPoE in the past, and it could be these aren't corrected in the new 1.3 release, which is based on a newer version of OpenWrt.

Sorry, I usually do massive edits to my post when I realise I missed a few details (and it happens very frequently), only this time I was in a hurry and had to go out.


Anyway, I'm using DIR-300, and version 1.2.3. Version 1.3 currently doesn't work with DIR-300. I'm also connecting using PPPoE, like you've said.

Some member's sig are using 1.2.1 for DIR-300, so I'm going to try that one actually.

EDIT: Current temporary solution is to disable my modem's DHCP. It's so that it doesn't get the IP of the modem. Can't know something that's not told, eh? Now, accessing the modem itself over the network... is another matter I'll try once I get this fixed.

Off-Topic: Is 1.3.0 using OpenWRT 10.03?

Ah, your modem isn't in bridge mode. In order for PPPoE to work properly, you need to put your modem in bridge mode so that hosts get IPs/DNS from the router DHCP server.

Yes 1.3 is based on 10.03. Thanks for the tip that it doesn't work with the DIR 300, I'll see if I can figure out what's going on there.

It is already in bridge mode. As far as I know, if it's not in bridge mode, the modem will not allow the router to negotiate the pppoe connection (as the modem itself has done it)!

It's just that you can still access the modem page even if it's in bridge mode that's all. I don't think it's on my end, DD-WRT used to work well, except for that laggy web interface, and for some reason gargoyle negotiates connections better.
