Question on wifi scheduler plugin

Post by coastalcruiser »

Just discovered and installed this plugin. As much as I can tell this is a global facility... i.e. the schedule applies to all clients. Just wish to confirm this. I'm looking to apply the schedule on a per user basis, or perhaps to the guest network only.

(want be able to lock the kiddies out but not the parents) ;>

It actually acts to bring down and up the entire wireless network on schedule.

If you segregate your network with the kids on either only one band of a dual band device I can think of a very easy way to modify the script to do as you wish.

Similarly if you seperate them onto guest wireless, it isn't as easy but it could definitely be done.

Let me know your thoughts and also your level of confidence with command line interfaces.

Thanx Lantis. I'm actually researching this to assist some users on a Ubiquiti UniFi forum (UniFi is a managed wifi soluiton) who wish this functionality. I might look for other solutions first before recommending customizing a Gargoyle router at the cli.

And I just discovered that the UniFi controller has a scheduling option, on a per SSID basis. So that is a good "Plan B" solution, Plan A being related to my adjacent post regarding limiting the kiddies on an overall time quota rather than specific usage hours.

A time quota on the one hand seems a like a "hey, how come gargoyle doesn't do that given that it enforces data quotas?". On the other hand it may be challenging to track usage by time... do you go by time connected to the device? ... or maybe accumulate time by actual traffic. I don't know. There's likely a good reason why it has not been implemented yet. :>

Fair enough.

Your question on time restriction is indeed not simple.

i talked about it in this thread a little: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7497

It is a GREAT feature. just not easy to implement lol.
